It’s been a while….

Life got really busy, suddenly.

Had boatloads of events to attend:

And BBQs to throw:

And I got a new tattoo (photos to come)

But, fear not, I’m back.

Black is Beautiful (in Italy)

Courtesy of Fashionista.com:

“This just in from a source:

Steven Meisel has just shot an entire issue of Vogue Italia with all black models, hoping that other issues of Vogue start to diversify their own portfolios.

Apparently, all of the photo shoots have already happened, as model bookers at various agencies have been contacted and sourced for new, beautiful, not-white girls — and now they’re twittering about how cool the issue will be.”

Its almost a shame that Italian Vogue is going to be the first to do this. Especially considering that Americans pride themselves in their diversity. Logically, however, it makes sense. Italians do love brown.

Because it seems appropriate – a tribute to some of my favorite black models:

Central Park Summerstage Schedule

There is nothing better than sitting on the lawn and enjoying some free tunes on a warm summer Saturday.  And, its even better when the show’s free.
Central Park Summerstage’s schedule’s up and online (though this isn’t news, I’m just getting the time to check it out).

I will probably be taking advantage of Vampire Weekend and Yael Naim (you know, the girl that sing’s the Macbook Air song).

Listen to Vampire Weekend Perform Cape Cod LIVE! on Jimmy Kimmel

Listen to Yael Naim cover Britney Spears’s Toxic

Dolce Vita – Sample Sale

Easily one of my favorite brands of shoes, primarily because they’re always comfortable, come in fun colors and are exceptionally affordable (between $80 – $200 a pair), Dolce Vita’s having a Sample Sale effective today!

The Summer Oxford You Never Knew You Had To Have

Pure 80’s Sass

Recommended: My Brightest Diamond

Living in NYC offers me the pleasure of being introduced to things that I might not have otherwise known in other parts of the country. My Brightest Diamond (read:singer-songwriter multi-instrumentalist Shara Worden) is one of them. Mixing elements of opera, classical, maybe even a little tango and rock, she reminds me of a Si-Se* meets Porishead meets Jesca Hoop with more ‘tude. What this world really needs, is more rock opera.

You can check out My Brightest Diamond on MySpace.

Massimo Vignelli’s 1972 New York (redux)

Any self-respecting New Yorker should recognize this print – Massimo Vignelli’s 1972 rendering of the useful, albiet boring, NYC subway map. Since the original was released, Vignelli has updated the original (yeah, L train) and 500 signed copies are available for purchase for a cool $300. You’ll be the envy of all your subway trekking friends.

Bowie Obama

We always knew that Obama was a little bit country and a lot bit rock and roll, this just sums it up.
